Overview of Mirroring

This chapter describes the definition, purpose, and advantages of mirroring.


Mirroring is a method to obtain packets received or sent on ports without affecting packet forwarding. It is used to locate faults on a network.


On a live network, the interface status of devices needs to be observed and analyzed. After mirroring is configured, all packets can be copied to a specified observing port and then sent to a network management device for monitoring and analyzing. The mirroring process does not affect packet forwarding on the mirrored port.
